100,000 free seats to Thailand AirAsia.com are currently running a "Mai Bpen Rai Thailand" promotion, offering 100,000 free seats on flights to Thailand from selected cities. The booking period is only for 3 days, from Dec 17 to December 19th, and travel must take place between January 6th 2009 and March 31st 2009. The zero Baht flights are between Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport and the following cities:
If you live in or are travelling in Asia during the above travel dates, this is a great opportunity to fly to Thailand for a really low price. Thai hotels slash prices for stranded touristsWith thousands of tourists awaiting seats on coveted flights from Thailand after a crippling airport blockade, hotels are slashing prices to attract stranded passengers and make up lost income. More than 100 flights were due to leave Bangkok's main airport on Thursday after anti-government protesters ended an eight-day siege, but it will take days to clear the backlog of 350,000 passengers. The five-star Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok had dropped its room rate from 8000 baht to 4500 baht (A$348 to $195) for stranded travellers. "The offer is only available to those who are supposed to depart but cannot catch their flight," front office supervisor Yongyan Mankhamsri told said. At Thailand's tallest hotel, the towering 88-storey Baiyoke Sky Hotel in downtown Bangkok, room rates have been slashed from 5500 baht to 3300 baht. It said it was at full occupancy since dropping its prices. Other hotels had already found extra bookings from among the stranded tourists, with the five-star Four Seasons in Bangkok reporting increased sales. "Today we have additional bookings from people waiting for the airport," said duty manager Sermsak Khampitoon. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) told Thai media Thursday that the numbers of international tourists was now expected to be half the previously projected 15 million next year. It will be a big blow to the Thai economy, which relies principally on tourism and exports. The TAT said it would be launching an advertising campaign called "Apologies Thailand" in an attempt to woo disgruntled tourists back to the kingdom. Meanwhile, other hotels were attempting to lure in more domestic bookings to make up for cancellations by international tourists. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel on the banks of Bangkok's scenic Chao Phraya River has nearly halved the price of an A$603 room in its river wing -- but only to those with Thai citizenship, staff said. Other hotels are keeping prices steady, instead relying on the normally lucrative Christmas and New Year period to bring in seasonal bookings -- assuming flights are back to normal. The Thai Hotels Association said businesses were pursuing different strategies to sell rooms during the downturn. "It depends on the hotel, it depends on location, it depends on which part of the hotel it is," associate manager Sakkarin Chorsawai said.
Source: The Age, Australia Aleenta Resort Cha AmThe very first and some people say the best of the boutique Cha Am resorts is Aleenta Resort, a personal favourite for a number of years.Meaning “a rewarding life” in Sanskrit, Aleenta will certainly leave you feeling like you are leading a rewarding life as you relax in one of the 20 uniquely designed, “one of a kind” suites or pool villas, if only for a few days. ![]() The look of this resort is truly unique, there really is nothing like it in Thailand. The villas and suites, with their white stone walls and thatched roofs, lining the beach and separated by meandering pathways and tropical vegetation bring to mind an idealized Mexican or Corsican seaside village, as you can see from the picture shown here to the right, overlooking the balcony of a private pool villa. One if the things I love about the Aleenta, besides the beautifully designed rooms, is something that I haven't seen at any other hotel anywhere. While iDocks, where you can plug your own iPod in and listen to it over the stereo system in the room are slowing popping up here and there in some of the higher end or more imaginative properties, Aleenta goes one further and actually supplies their own iPods, chock full of music from their own extensive music library. So if you don't have your own iPod with you, or even if you do, you can explore and discover some great new music either in your room, on your private balcony and pool, or by the infinity pool in the Frangipani wing. In addition to the private pool villas and the child friendly suites of the Frangipani Wing, Aleenta also offers a storey bungalow, The Beach House. The lower floor features a plunge pool and private verandah. The upper floor offers a private sun deck as well as front and rear balconies. Guests can choose the upper or lower level, or reserve the whole bungalow for a party of four. Hotel soft openingsOn December 20th of this year, Yaiya Resort in Cha Am will be having a soft opening.A soft opening is when a new hotel opens with minimal publicity a few weeks before a grand opening. This done to give the mostly new staff time to work out any kinks in the running of the hotel. A soft opening can be a great time to stay at discounted prices at brand new hotels. Discounts are offered for the very reason that during the first couple of weeks are sort of like a training period. You may have a number of small inconveniences, like having to wait longer for room service, or housekeeping taking a long time. Basically an unorganized feeling throughout the hotel. On the other hand, apart from getting cheaper prices than usual to compensate for the possibility of a little inconvenience while the staff and management find their feet, staying during a soft stay can allow you to stay in brand new properties, on brand new sheets that nobody has ever slept on, and you can more than likely practically have the whole pool area to yourself. If you don't mind putting up with some minor gliches while the the staff and management get on their feet, staying at new hotels during their soft openings (if you can find out about them as they are not heavily advertised) might be a great way to stay for less than you would normally have to pay. Cha Am Hotels Over the next few weeks I will be introducing an area of Thailand that is not overwhelmed by the tourist trade. While being only 2 hours from Bangkok, it offers a lovely long beach and some very beautiful resorts including some increasingly popular Pool villas. The area is Cha Am, not far from Hua Hin, which has a higher profile. As most tourists who are heading down to this area of Thailand make a beeline for Hua Hin, you can enjoy a truly quiet and peaceful beach holiday here. If exciting nightlife is what you are after, you may like to look at another area, perhaps Phuket or Pattaya. But if want to relax on the beach or by the pool without the hassles and bustle of a typical beach resort town, Cha Am may be just up your alley. We will be introducing and reviewing a number of Cha Am hotels, starting with the truly unique Aleenta Resort & Spa and the Veranda Resort and Spa with some of the stunning above mentioned private pool villas. The picture shown here is the Aleenta. "No Joiner" fee hotels in Pattaya. If you are heading to Pattaya anytime soon, you may be interested in a list of hotels in the city that do not charge extra for bringing an unregistered guest back to your room. The so called "joiner fee", added by some hotels, can sometimes be up to 1500 Baht, which can be more than the original price of the room! This could be a shock at checkout, especially if you have spent a number of nights at the establishment and the front desk staff have neglected or "forgotten" to tell you about the charge. It can also turn out to be quite embarrassing if you get stopped in the lobby in the early hours of the morning because you weren't aware of your hotel's policies regarding such visitors. So in order to make things a little easier for folks that want to party in Pattaya, we have found a list of guest/girl friendly hotels in Pattaya that we think you might find useful. Of course over time, hotels can change their policies so if you find that any of the hotels on this list are no longer "no joiner fees hotels in Pattaya", please leave a comment below and we will contact the authors of the list. Happy Mothers Day - To all my kids, I love you and am so grateful to be your Mom. To my grand-daughter stolen from me. I think you are about 10 months old and we think you are named Ada. We love you. You precious missed, adored and ached for. There is no excuse for you not knowing our love, our arms, our happiness to have you. We hope it won't be too long before you know us. I do love you, wherever you are. This weeks top 10 on iTunes JapanBelow you will find the ten most downloaded Jpop songs on the Japanese iTunes store for the week ending April 9 2008.Check out Thelma Aoyama with 2 songs in the top 10!
Aoyama Teruma stickers with every Japanese iTunes card purchasedI remember thinking for the longest time that Teruma (テルマ) was such a strange name for a Japanese mother to call her daughter, but last week I finally found out that it was the Katakana spelling of her name which is Thelma. (!) Now I feel even worse for the poor girl.Thelma. As in Thelma and Louise. As in people's grandmother's names! Oh well, I suppose there is no need to feel too sorry for the girl, with 2 singles in the Oricon top 10 at the moment and an album that is selling like hotcakes. I read on another jpop blog that she was a quarter Japanese with some Trinidadian and Tobagan ethnicity. Wouldn't quarter mean that she has one set of Japanese grandparents? She looks to me like she has more Japanese than that. She is really cute though. The VJs were going through her handbag on MTV the other night and it was pretty funny. More below..... ![]() So I went to the nearest record store yesterday because I had the brainy idea of getting the promotion posters of JPop artists that are plastered all over the shops after they finished displaying them. If they are going to throw them out, they might as well give them to me so I can send them to some lucky members of my site of JPop fans right? Well the guy behind the counter wasn't having any of it and was being quite unreasonably inflexible. But it's ok, I'll go in there next week again and go above his head to the good old tenchou and see if he'll be more reasonable. But on the way out I did come across a whole stack of Thelma Aoyama promotional stickers for her album which I didn't feel too bad about helping myself to a few. That's them listed above. So in the spirit of trying new ideas I've decided to send a sticker to anybody who wants one and who buys a Japanese iTunes card of any value from JpopMp3s in April. Just reply to the email you get from me with your iTunes card number in it and tell me where you want me to send it to. It doesn't matter where in the world you live, if you have a postman, I'll send it. Calling all Jpop Blog owners!Do you have a Jpop or JRock related blog? Could you use more traffic? Who couldn't use more traffic right?JPopMp3s.com is soon going to be releasing a new browser tool bar for members to download and have instant access to a number of features including fresh content delivered via the toolbar instantly, no matter where on the web you are. There is an email notifier that lets you know instantly if you have a new email, compatible with Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail and all Pop3 email accounts. But the most exciting part for owners of blogs is that there is an RSS device right in the tool bar that updates instantly when a new blog post is posted. It's unobtrusive while being instantly available. ![]() People don't even have to open their RSS feed reader. As you can see from the screen shot here, you can click on the RSS feed button right there in the browser, no matter where you are on the internet. A drop down appears listing all the newest unread blog posts. This is where the good part for you comes in. If you would like to have more exposure to your blog from the desktop of hundreds of Jpop fans who will download the tool bar to their browser (IE and Firefox), drop me a line and either by commenting on this post or by emailing me over at JPopMp3s.com. I've got a number of blogs in mind who I will be contacting and asking them if they would like to be included in this exciting new project, but I would also welcome anybody who thinks their jpop related blog would be a valuable addition to the feed. Here's your chance to get every post you make in front of many more eyeballs. But not just any random eyeballs, people who are genuine fans of Japanese pop and rock music and culture and would be seriously interested in what you have to say. Lebua at State tower hotel, BangkokRiverside 1055/111 Silom Road Bangrak, Bangkok, Thailand
The Lebua is no stranger to publicity, controversy, or Michelin chefs. Last year it offered what was billed as a feast of a lifetime, a decadent 10 course meal prepared by 6, Three-Star Michelin chefs specially flown in for the occasion, with each course paired with a vintage wine. That meal cost USD25,000 a head. Since news of the proposed dinner and tour has gotten out, a huge controversy has erupted, especially in France, with the backlash in that country forcing the three chefs who had originally signed on for the project- at USD8000 each for one nights work- to back out. The organizers stress that their intentions were good- drawing attention to poverty so close to where millions of people spend luxury holidays each year- and that while dining on their luxurious feast, the guests, which include casino owners, bankers and other such business elite, would be asked to help pay for a hospital, a school and other infrastructure for the impoverished village. Organizers have apologized for any misunderstanding the event planned for April 5th may have caused, but insist that the dinner will go ahead as planned. Despite it's lofty plans and the fact that the super-rich business elite who could afford to finance a village choose to stay at this hotel, you can stay at this hotel for less than USD150 a night. You can find out more information about this hotel here. Read reviews of The Lebua at State Tower hotel Bangkok Coke + iTunes JapanLast Monday (March 10 2008) Coca Cola Japan and iTunes Japan launched their newest collaborative campaign giving away one song every 15 seconds. Every 500ml bottle of Coca Cola and Coca Cola Zero sold here in Japan comes with a code to redeem 1 free song from the Japanese iTunes music store. Why is that good news for anyone besides people living in Japan who like music? Well it's great news for members of JPopMp3s.com because I have taken it upon myself to do the heavy lifting, that is, drink a lot of coke and collect as many access codes as possible! I know, it's a hard job, but someone has to take one for the team. The campaign goes until April 30th 2008, and the codes are valid for 6 months. I'm still deciding how I will distribute these free Japanese iTunes codes among my members, so stay tuned here for more details. Spring Cleaning For Your Computer For $47!!!

I was pleasantly surprised to find a happy member who had used our services and decided to blog about it.Check out what she has to say below. I couldn't have said it better myself :) Thanks Sonia! I always prefer to get hold of music legally whenever possible - particularly if the price is right and buying it is just way more convenient than trying to yoink a free copy amidst the virus-infested shit that's out there. I also want to be able to try out an artist by just getting one song, or something like that - but that's difficult as it can be very expensive and time-consuming importing CDs from Japan.
