Payday Loans Are A Last Resort

Yeah, we all know we should have a couple of thousand in the bank for emergencies and that we should save and budget and never get into debt. But 'stuff happens' and sometimes all these good intentions get shot to pieces.

What can you do when you're desperate for cash but there's nothing in the bank? How do you avoid a payday loan?

1. You could ask your employer for a genuine advance on your paycheck. It may be humbling to do so but some employers are willing to do this without a fuss and they may agree to extended loan terms.

2. Ask a family member for a loan. Ask Mom (not Dad!)

3. Find a local Credit Union and ask them for help.

4. Get another job. Do this anyway if funds are always short and use the money to build up a little nest-egg.

The time to sort out your finances is before you get into trouble, so if you're tempted to take out a payday loan, think twice. You could save yourself a lot of grind.
